Have you ever found yourself overthinking and softening your language in emails, meetings, conversations, or voice and text messages...

So that other people wouldn’t perceive you as being a pain in the ass, or too needy, or too bossy, or too whatever the feck’?

How about over-explaining yourself almost as a preemptive apology - instead of just answering with a direct yes or no?

Are you familiar with often disclaiming yourself, your ideas, your work or your words in advance?

In my writing workshops, I often hear people (but especially women) do this “thing” before they share what they wrote with the rest of the group.

Before they read a single word of their work, they start out with a rush of disclaimers; saying things like...

“Well, I just wrote this really fast” - or- “We didn't have a ton of time” - or - “This still needs polishing” - or - "This isn't very good, but..."

This is one of the reasons why we encourage no explaining, or disclaimers because those statements are not reflective of the brilliant writing that they inevitably go on to read!

It’s that double-edged sword of wanting to be seen, and wanting to share yourself and your work, but also being afraid of being seen and how your nervous system responds to it!

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, I’m inviting you to stop apologizing in advance. Stop over explaining, and putting up disclaimers before sharing amazing YOU and your art, your words, your work or your skills, whatever they may be.

Your point of view is worthy and your creativity and your ideas are needed in the world!

So please… Speak up. Have your own back. Have the backs of other women and people.

And, let's be in the habit of saying what we actually mean!

KK's Takeaways:

  • The Double-Edged Sword (6:25)
  • Stop Apologizing (10:49)
  • How We Tend To Over-Explain (17:55)
  • The First Step To Lasting Change (22:47)
  • Practice Saying No By Saying No (27:21)

Karen Kenney is a certified Spiritual Mentor, Hypnotist, Integrative Change Worker and a Life Coach. She’s known for her dynamic storytelling, her sense of humor, her Boston accent and her no-bullshit approach to Spirituality and transformational work.

She’s been a yoga teacher for 22+ years, is a Certified Gateless Writing Instructor, and is also an author, speaker, retreat leader and the host of The Karen Kenney Show podcast.

A curious human being, life-long learner and an entrepreneur for 20+ years, KK brings a down-to-earth perspective to applying spiritual principles and brain science that create powerful shifts in people’s lives and businesses.

She works with people individually in her 1:1 program THE QUEST, and offers a collective learning experience via Group Coaching. She supports both the conscious and unconscious mind by combining practical Neuroscience, Subconscious Reprogramming, Integrative Hypnosis, and Spiritual Mentorship. These tools help clients regulate their nervous systems, remove blocks, rewrite stories, rewire beliefs, and reimagine what’s possible!

Karen wants her clients to have their own lived experience with spirituality and to not just “take her word for it”. She encourages people to deepen their personal connection to Self, Source and Spirit in tangible, relatable, and actionable ways without losing sight of the magic.

Her process called: “Your Story To Your Glory” helps people to shift from an old thought system of fear to one of Love - using compassion, un-shaming, laughter and humor, her work is effective, efficient, and it’s also wicked fun!

KK’s been a student of A Course in Miracles for close to 30 years, has been vegan for over 20 years, and believes that a little kindness can go a long way and make a miraculous difference.
