Bible 101: Persecuted for what?
Manage episode 450066457 series 3615363
With Kim out this week recovering from Covid, Pr Joe Liles welcomes Tom Helmich and Tevo Christmann to go over the 3rd chapter of 2 Timothy. In this chapter Paul charges Timothy to draw boundaries with certain people and tells him to expect persecution. What could Timothy have to say that would be so offensive? What could we say that could be so offensive?
Here it is: the gospel is not at work in those who are godly only in outward appearance. Like Jesus said, they have received their reward. "But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you." (Matthew 6:6)
Paul ends the chapter with advice we would all do well to heed: when in doubt as to how to stand firm, go back to Scripture because it is "God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness."
