From the moment Jesus announced “The Kingdom of God is here; Turn and believe the Good News,” followers of Jesus have lived under the public authority of Jesus the Lord.
Jesus’ disciples are called to do the politics of Jesus as set out in Matthew 5-7 and throughout the four Gospels. This vision is lived out in the ekklesia - the called out – the “citizens of heaven doing the business of heaven.”
Yet in 2024, the power of identity politics in the U. S., on the left and the right, within the churches, threatens to marginalize, if not obliterate the church’s public witness to Jesus.
