09 - Why I Do Mediumship, Reflections on this Podcast and the Stereotypes Surrounding Mediumship
Manage episode 364266793 series 3478860
On this weeks episode I talk about three things: why I do mediumship, reflections that came up around the launch and reception of my podcast, and the stereotypes about mediumship. Check out the notes below for a more depth look but as always, I hope you enjoy and thanks for listening.
Why I do mediumship:
- It was not my intention to start doing mediumship
- Mediumship has saved my life, given me life, and given me my life back
- It’s helped me become more comfortable with the dark places in my life
- It has helped me more than any therapy I’ve done but I don’t discount the benefit of therapy
- I used to feel like I was walking around in a fog before, due to my trauma
- Helped me identify triggers with my own PTSD and anxiety
- I realized a bit of healing I could give other people
- To see the tiniest bit of healing is a way for me to give back a bit of what I have received
Podcast things that came up around it:
- It’s taken me six years to stand in my own power and do this
- I’m not trying to convert anyone, I’m doing this for me
- Fear of potential criticism-people thinking I’m crazy
- Healing my own issues around being seen and heard
- All the negative things I thought would happen by putting this out, haven’t
Stereotypes of mediumship:
- Mediumship is ripe with stereotypes
- American culture has many accepted religions but mediumship is considered ‘weird’
- Our culture tells us what’s accepted
- In other cultures, talking to spirits is ‘normal’
- Cultural acceptance and being gay - culture defines what is ok
- It takes people time to come around to acceptance, if they do
- The role that fear plays in others acceptance of mediumship
