As a small business selling a service, it can feel daunting to be competing against the likes of Intuit and McKinsey and HR Block and Robert Half. But you do have some big advantages, which can make you wildly successful. 1. Dynamic rather than static. A big bidness like an HR Block or McKinsey is full of red tape and is built for the next 50 years. Meaning, when things change very rapidly in a 3 month to 12 month timeframe, like turning the Titanic around, they might not be fast enough to pivot. As a solopreneur service bidness owner, if a service is out of fashion, you can pivot overnight and start selling what's selling right now. This means you can survive by being more nimble, and eventually crush it. 2. You can sell closer to your customer. What this means is the end customer can get the CEO on the phone: you. Cold calling and emailing prospects personally and handing out your business card should be a pleasure to you and you should see them as an opportunity. McKinsey's CEO can't do that. Your customers will love you more than McKinsey's. 3. You don't have the baggage of decades of wrong decisions. It's hard to turn around a company like Boeing right now. You, as a solo service bidness owner, can make the right and best decisions going forward from now. Embrace that kind of Day 1 freedom. So what if you don't have a ton of business or maybe have zero clients. It's Day 1. You don't have baggage and wrong decisions weighing your brand down. It's all upside. Shake off the victim mentality and realize the opportunity for what it is. This is your Super Bowl if you want it to be. This is your World Series, your radio show.
