The Trail Went Cold

June 25, 1983. Jefferson County, Montana. While attending a picnic with her family in Helena National Forest, four-year old Nyleen Kay Marshall goes off to play with some other children until she vanishes without a trace. An extensive search of the forest fails to find her, but other kids report having seen an unidentified man in a jogging suit speaking to Nyleen shortly before she went missing. Over two years later, the authorities receive a series of anonymous letters and phone calls from a man who claims to be raising Nyleen, but he is never identified and Nyleen cannot be found. Was Nyleen Kay Marshall actually the victim of a stranger abduction and, if so, who was responsible? On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a disturbing unsolved missing children’s case which has featured a number of surprising twists and turns these past four decades.
