More than half a million Australians have had – or have considered – designer vagina surgery, new research has found, under the influence of mainstream pornography and social media. Now one of the fastest growing cosmetic procedures among young people in Australia and worldwide, the surgery, known as labiaplasty, involves the removal or altering of tissues from the labia, the folds of skin that sit on either side of a person’s vaginal opening. In the headlines on #TheUpdate this Wednesday, New York voters approved an amendment to the state’s constitution barring discrimination based on things including “gender identity” and “pregnancy outcomes,” changes supporters say will further protect transgender and abortion rights. Meanwhile, Democrats in New York unseated two first-term Republican incumbents in the U.S. House, one in the Hudson Valley and the other in a district that includes Syracuse, rolling back some recent GOP gains in the state.

In other news, a social media influencer from Texas was disqualified from last weekend’s New York City Marathon and banned from future competitions after he ran the race with a camera crew on e-bikes in tow.

And call him the comeback kid. Donald Trump was elected the 47th president of the United States, an extraordinary comeback for a former president who refused to accept defeat four years ago, sparked a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, was convicted of felony charges and survived two assassination attempts. Meanwhile, a series of bomb threats across multiple battleground states and baseless claims of wrongdoing by former President Donald Trump disrupted an otherwise smooth Election Day that capped a tumultuous presidential campaign.
