In this episode of The Weekly Congressional Report, we examine two critical bills that tackle some of the most pressing issues facing America today: online safety for children and the growing threat of foreign adversary-controlled applications.

The first bill, S. 1409, known as the Kids Online Safety Act, seeks to protect minors from the dangers lurking on digital platforms. The bill outlines measures that platforms must implement to safeguard children from exposure to harmful content, compulsive usage, and online exploitation. With broad bipartisan support, this bill addresses growing concerns over the mental health impacts of social media on young users.

Meanwhile, H.R. 7521, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, takes aim at foreign-controlled apps like TikTok. This bill proposes a ban on foreign adversary-controlled apps operating in the U.S. unless they divest from adversarial nations. It sets stringent penalties for companies that fail to comply, reflecting rising fears about data security and national threats posed by foreign-owned digital platforms.
**Congress is out of session the week of October 14, 2024. As such we are reviewing bills from earlier in the cycle that have major impacts on you. Congress will be back in session on November 12th**

Join Brian Barnes along with AI hosts Avery and Iris as they delve into the details of these pivotal pieces of legislation and their potential impact on both national security and the well-being of our youth. This episode breaks down the complexities of each bill and offers insights into how they address the challenges of our interconnected digital world.

Whether you’re concerned about child safety, national security, or simply curious about how these bills will affect your daily digital interactions, this episode will provide the facts you need.
