Today's topic is about understanding the season we are in.
Starting in the beginning of 1 Chronicles chapter 12, men of war, arrayed in battle order, came to Hebron with a whole heart to make David king over all Israel.
1 Chronicles 12:32 says :
Of Issachar, men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, 200 chiefs, and all their kinsmen under their command.
I want to emphasize the Issachar tribe, "Men who had understanding of the times".
In Ecclesiastes 3:1, King Soleman says:
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
The name "Rosh Hashanah" means, literally, "head of the year" or "first of the year." Rosh Hashanah is commonly known as the Jewish New Year. This name is somewhat deceptive, because there is little similarity between Rosh Hashanah, one of the holiest days of the year, and the American midnight drinking bash and daytime football game.
We are about to step into a New Year on the Jewish calendar. Rosh Hashanah begins Friday, September 15, 2023. Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year festival, held on the first (also sometimes the second) day of Tishri (in September). It is marked by the blowing of the shofar and begins the ten days of penitence culminating in Yom Kippur.
Yom Kippur is the most solemn religious fast of the Jewish year, the last of the ten days of penitence that begin with Rosh Hashanah. Yom Kippur is Sunday, September 24, 2023.
