In this episode of the Smarter Not Harder Podcast, our guest Dr. Bret Scher joins our host Dr. Scott Sherr to give one-cent solutions to life’s $64,000 questions that include:

  • What is the true definition of metabolic health, and why is metabolic health so poor in the United States?
  • How does the ketogenic diet affect various types of cardiology markers?
  • Why is it important to think about metabolic flexibility in the context of whether you're metabolically healthy or not?

Dr. Bret Scher is a board certified cardiologist, lipidologist, and a leading expert in therapeutic uses of metabolic therapies, including the ketogenic diet. He is the Director of Metabolic Mind, a nonprofit initiative for the Baszucki group. Dr. Scher was most recently the medical director of DietDoctor.com before becoming the medical director of Metabolic Mind. He also runs a preventative cardiology telemedicine practice at lowcarbcardiologist.com. Dr. Scher has spent most of his 20 year career as a preventative cardiologist, helping people improve their metabolic health and prevent heart disease using low carb nutrition and lifestyle interventions.

What we discuss:

[21:19] Ketogenic diet can be personalized to any dietary pattern and offers various benefits.

[30:17] Ketogenic therapy shows promising results for various mental health conditions.
