Jim Swain was born in New York and is a graduate of NYU. In 1982, he migrated to Florida where he ran a successful advertising business with his wife, which he sold in 2003 to pursue a career as a mystery writer. Swain has penned twenty-two novels, with over two million books in print in twelve foreign countries. His books have appeared on numerous bestseller lists including Amazon’s Top Ten in 2017. He has received many awards including a Florida Book Award and six Barry award nominations. His novel Grift Sense was chosen as a Mystery of the Year by Publisher’s Weekly and received France’s prestigious Prix Calibre .38 for Best American Crime Fiction.
Swain performs at The Hollander Hotel in downtown St. Pete every Thursday from 7-10pm. His knowledge of magic and gambling grifters infuses his engrossing books. An avid sleight of hand magician since childhood, Swain is considered one of the world’s foremost authorities on casino cheating and scams, and has lectured at the famed Magic Castle in Hollywood on the subject.
