This Earth Day special of The Evermore Podcast explores the history that Baltimore City has with the Inner Harbor.
It was only a decade ago that the pollution problem had become so tragic that the thought of the city enjoying a recreational waterfront seemed impossible. Since that time, John Kellett, a local engineer who worked on the waterfront, has come up with a solution!
With the help of the Waterfront Partnership in Baltimore now has a fleet of anthropomorphic googly-eyed heroes that act as the last line of defense against pollution in the inner harbor. They've become so effective at cleaning up our local water that soon, we may be able to enjoy our inner harbor in new and exciting ways.
In this special episode, our host, Serena Brontide, speaks with Chelsea Anspach, the environmental communications manager for the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore, about their Healthy Harbor Initiative and what is probably their most famous part of that initiative, Mr. Trash Wheel.
In this interview, they discuss the importance of the inner harbor to Baltimore City, the secret society that pays tribute to the trash wheels, the weird things that have been pulled out of the harbor, and how anyone around the world can help!
