This week on the Monday Mile Podcast, we are in central London with a radio DJ. Known best for his time at the Capital Breakfast show he now hosts his own Capital Late Show. He’s recently gone through a drastic body transformation and has quite literally turned his life around.
We discuss Dancing on Ice and the mindset learned from that, going in as the underdog with no pressure and the discipline required to progress. “ you can start terrible at something, if you consistently do something you can get really good at it”.
We chat about his former lifestyle covering double shifts on the radio and how it was not conducive to a healthy lifestyle with extremely early mornings and very late nights. Sonny shares his inspiration behind the transformation and the significant 30th Birthday mark, and the steps he's taken to make some real life changes.
One takeaway I particularly liked, was Sonny's theory on having “peaks in the day, having 2 points of high”. Formerly he would have one peak, that being work, (which exhausted him mentally) and the rest of the day was on a decline, feeling jet-lagged and the day being done.
He chats about goal setting and the time-frame of 6 months and the importance of being able to apply yourself to make those lifestyle changes. One being changing the mindset around food, and removing the mentality of having to finish everything on the plate and learning what being full and satisfied is.
Aimee will be probing for answers from the full spectrum of routines; the early birds who have finely tuned Monday mornings, to the late risers who struggle to get up before 11am. How do elite athletes find the motivation to kick start their week come rain or shine? How do celebrities deliver no matter what the time of day? What knowledge can they pass on?
Each episode drops on a Monday morning as a bitesize piece of content and weekly dose of motivation - right when you need it. Aimee will meet each of her guests for a walk and a chat and over the course of the mile she will find out how they cope on a Monday morning - their idiosyncrasies, breakfast routines, alarm noises - and how, when they need to, find the motivation to kick-on through the week. Sharing some of Britain's greatest athletes, entrepreneurs, doctors, authors and broadcasters ’ secrets on self-motivation, candid thoughts on what they struggle with and a sideways look at some of their more unusual morning habits.
