Ep 22 Alain Hunkins: Cracking the Leadership Code and How it Relates to COVID-19
Manage episode 257039404 series 2564398
Moving forward, every guest will not only share their expertise, but also their perspective and help us all grow through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today’s guest, Alain Hunkins, is so dynamic that we have three themes to discuss and how all of these are relevant to what we are all going through as we try to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Alain is the author of Cracking the Leadership Code, where he shares the valuable principles and practices that he developed and refined during the 20+ years he’s worked with leaders. This is helpful to everyone because we are all leaders in some way, whether a parent, an older sibling, or a CEO- and we all need to be leaders in our current crisis.
We also delve into one of the many things we have in common and that is his parents are holocaust survivors like mine. We talk through how that is helping us with our current situation.
Finally, Alain tells us about his family’s choice to move from the US to the Netherlands and what their experience has been like and what they miss about the USA.
This episode is jam packed! I hope you enjoy it and hope that you and your families are healthy and safe.
“You have to shift your focus and instead of thinking of yourself as this commander, it’s how can you be more of a facilitator? I love the word ‘facilitate’ because it comes from the same word ‘facile’ which means to make things easy. So how can you make things easier for people?”
“For me, it’s just how can we make the most of what we have in the time that we have it.”
“My life mission is about kindling the fire of brilliance in people, The thing is you can’t kindle fire without taking some dead wood and burning it. And I think part of learning our stories is to look at the past and see what’s died and so we can use that as fuel to help us moving forward.”
In this episode, you will hear:
- Alain’s experience and how and why he wrote Cracking the Leadership Code
- The significance that his mother and grandmother’s survival of the Holocaust has had on him
- His family’s choice to move from the United States to the Netherlands
