Today, I have the privilege of speaking with returning podcast guest Dr. Uma Naidoo. Dr. Uma is a Harvard University trained psychiatrist, professional chef, and nutrition specialist; she is also the national bestselling author of This Is Your Brain On Food, where she explains

the ways in which food contributes to our mental health and how a diet can help treat and prevent a wide range of psychological and cognitive health issues such as anxiety, depression, and OCD.

In this episode, Dr. Uma and I discuss:

  • The profound impact her book, This Is Your Brain On Food, has had on its readers over the past few years as people leaned into cooking and sought ways to manage stress and anxiety during the height of the pandemic.

  • Ways in which we can alleviate anxiety by eating highly-nutritious foods designed to support physical and mental health.

  • The positive and powerful impact both nutrition and lifestyle can have when dealing with a health concern.

  • The unique challenges healthcare providers face when managing their own anxiety as they go through medical challenges.

  • The reality that mental health is an all-body concept.

Dr. Uma’s approach to food and mental health resonates deeply with me and I appreciate how she highlights how to make things approachable and doable in her work. If you’d like to listen to my first podcast interview with Dr. Uma, where we spoke about many facts related to the gut-brain connection, you can do so here.
