Sometime ago I had the chance to sit down with researcher Dr. Paul J. Zak. As an Economist, you’d think he’d be an unlikely candidate for our love podcast. Dr. Zak first popped up on my radar when I read his article, “Why Men Cheat: The Problem with Tiger.”

His theories on why alpha males cheat immediately struck me. He was using science as a way to explain something that many people have asked. I liked his theories and felt he was onto something—so I reached out for an interview.

Before we spoke I made sure to grab a copy of his book, “The Moral Molecle: The Source of Love and Prosperity.” Within the first few chapters, Dr. Paul shatters many of the long-held beliefs regarding a small molecule called, Oxytocin. This simple molecule long thought to be only useful for women breastfeeding is also a big player in people’s sense of morality, mating practices, giving, and business choices.

In this interview we go in depth about Dr. Paul’s experiments with oxytocin—ranging from traveling to South America, studying a remote tribe to spending $6,000 dollars on massages, and studying a previous star from the hit show, ‘The Apprentice.’
