The primary function of the auto-nomic nervous (ANS) system is to maintain a stable internal environment by mediating activities such as digestion, temperature, and blood pressure. Emotional expressions including palpitations of the heart, clammy hands, and blushing are observable signs that the sympathetic nervous system (=stress) is engaged.
When we are stressed, emotionally taxed, tired, or sensory overloaded, our nervous system is dysregulated. This is the body's natural response. In these moments, our nervous system benefits from a "reset" to get back to baseline.
Our modern lives set us up for a very overstimulated and dysregulated stateIntegrating relaxation techniques into the course of daily living can help the nervous system to reduce stress.
In this episode Brooke and Noa share 10 tips to calm down the nervous system and ease anxiety.
