Manage episode 418262676 series 3408578
Scientific studies support the benefits of mindful movement. For instance, a study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology found that regular exercise can be as effective as medication for reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety. Another study published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology found that mindfulness-based movement practices like yoga and Tai Chi can improve mood, reduce stress, and increase overall well-being.
In fact, a meta-analysis published in JAMA Psychiatry found that exercise has a large and significant effect on reducing symptoms of depression, regardless of the intensity or duration of the activity. The researchers analyzed 49 studies involving nearly 267,000 participants and found that exercise was associated with a 17% reduction in the risk of developing depression.
