Despite the millions of Ukrainian refugees heading to nearby countries, there are still some who choose to stay on the ground and continue to fight. The Russian attacks are horrific atrocities and have caused immense suffering, fear, and heartbreak. These people are the ones experiencing traumas and fears from getting tortured and arrested for no reason.

But why would they stay in their country rather than become a refugee? When would this war end? How can Americans help the Ukrainians? What are they doing on the ground?

Let’s hear out the people who are there and living through the nightmare. Today is a rare opportunity to hear four brave women telling stories of what they’re seeing and experiencing in Ukraine. Don’t miss this special episode of Health Talks with Dr. Trinh!

Memorable Quotes:

  • Russia didn’t ever expect Ukraine as a flourished country. — Nika Bielska
  • Let’s not confuse refugees with social-economical opportunists. — Valentyna Lyevlyeva
  • I can’t communicate with my relatives in Russia because they would also say that our army is killing our people and we should open our eyes. — Valery Shyrokova
  • My child shouldn't live in an apartment of people that I have never seen nor sleep in the bed of people that I have never seen. — Valery Shyrokova
  • Nothing will ever be more important than human values. — Tatiana Grinuova

Important Points:

  • People usually misunderstand that Russia and Ukraine have the same ancestors when they were just united by the Soviet Union and Ukraine has more in common with Poland.
  • We can’t imagine when and how will the Russo-Ukrainian war end.
  • Just from one hit, the whole country felt unsafe.
