And as you work with editors you realize they're your friend and they're gonna help you, and they know what they're doing. Hopefully you'll hire people who are well recommended and know what they're doing and who are professionals, and not just someone who studied English once. Yes, I've had editors do things that I didn't like. The wonderful thing about it is that as the author, you have final say, if you're not working with a giant publishing house, you have final say as to what is actually said. In the end, you can take an editor's view with a grain of salt. You don't have to incorporate it into your book. The other thing that's wonderful about the editing process is it's an education, and the more books you have edited and the more feedback you've seen on your own writing, the more your writing will improve.
I think it's easy to get over any sense of rejection by just remembering that, oh, I'm so relieved that this one person caught all those mistakes, rather than a million readers. Right. And as you work with editors, you realize they're your friend and they're gonna help you, and they know what they're doing.
